D2 speaker mounts in the D-pillars?

Anyone know if perhaps all D2's (2004 in my case) have speaker mounting plates behind the D-pillar plastic interior molding? I'm getting ready to change out the stock head unit (it's no longer working properly) and I'm going to change out speakers too. I have a cheap bastard SD model with stock speakers at the bottoms of the 4 doors and of course the little tweeter in the A-pillars. I'd like to put some speakers in the D-pillars like my old '96 had and I'm hoping the mounting plates are already there. Anyone know? I know the door cards have recesses for the mid-range speakers already there and ready to be cut out.

I believe not. I've had mine off before and there aren't any holes there.
There is plenty of room up there though if you aren't afraid to cut a little.

I don't recall ever seeing them in a DII. I think the best option would be to get some used SE door cards as they usually hold up pretty well, so finding a decent set shouldn't be too hard.

Nope, none behind the D pillars there. But there is room to work with to fabricate something. Maybe a MDF speaker ring behind the ABS plastic you could place the mounting screws into if youre not too keen on being a perfectionist. It will hold a 6.5in/4in or what not driver easily. Depends how deep your driver is and where you're placing it really....

Thanks guys. Good idea on just securing a 6" or so round to the D pillar plastic.
