Hey guys I had a small question. I was following the directions of this post http://www.discoweb.org/trailerwire/index.htm to wire my D2 with trailer wiring. Wal-Mart did not have the part so I ordered it online.

Well the install was super easy and Greg?s write up is perfect. It may be just things I don?t know but please bare with me. So I tested my wiring with the tester I don?t yet have a trailer to hook it to for the official test. Well the turn signals work. the lights won?t come on when I turn on my lights I have to push the bottom under the fog lights for the rear parking lights and then they turn on but my problem is the brakes I don?t notice the lights getting brighter when I hit the brakes but then again I?m looking at the tester light and not an actual trailer.

Any input would be great.

I'm gonna go with the harness from AtlanticBritish. Yes, it costs $99, but there is no splicing or cutting of wires. If you sell the Disco eventually you can just unplug and take it with you. As to why your lights aren;t working properly, you might have cut/ spliced into the wrong wires. You should hook up the trailer and see if the lights work properly.

I did this about 2 weeks ago, the install was easy. Did you get good wire connections and solder them? I didn't cut my factory plug off but just stripped the rubber back a bit and soldered the new. I used the tester and saw the turn signals and lights work but now that you mention I am not sure I even tested for the brake. Once I hooked a trailer up it had brake lights so you may find you are ok. This is coming from someone who had never soldered before... I even shocked my wife.

thanks adriatic04 i did not soder it i just used the blue clamps that it came with and they worked great i taped them up. so is that button under the fog light button on the left used for trailer hook ups? i guess i have to wait to see if the brake light works when i get the trailer. thanks

What button? On the dash? I don't have any buttons, just wiring right to trailer harness and use your lights. I heard those clips are good but also sketchy at times. I opted for solder and shrink wrap to prevent any water issue since there is a drain tube in that body panel.

Like none of the lights work unless you have that button pushed? You shouldn't have to hit the rear fog light switch to get your turns and brakes to work.

the signals work without the button on. the lights work with the button on, and i dont think the brake lights get brighter when you hit the brake. my turn signals are on the big lights on the body of the truck and my reverse and rear fog lights are on the rear bumper. the passanger side reverse rear fog is not wired up so that might be my issue. the light fell out and i got a new one but when it fell out it must have taken the plug with it. i tried to wire that but i dont know witch order the go in and it blew some fuses so i stoped tring to fix it.

Yeah sounds like it could be more of an issue although it will probably still work. Why not drive to a uhaul or trailer place and ask to hook up just to be sure things work before you need them to work?
