I'm at the dealership picking up a replacement for my rusted out fuel tank skid and noticed this in the repair bay...

He was putting a torque converter in as the pic was snapped.

I bet he’s replacing a locked up engine. I say that because the trans isn’t new and the crate next to him is an engine crate.
When you can’t rotate the engine to access torque converter bolts you have to get creative.

If the truck your buying that fuel tank shield has that fuel tank flange recall on it you should have been able to get that replaced with the recall. I submit for those as a related part with the recall.

Yikes. Is that a thing that's been happening, or is this likely the case of a random idiot who didn't change the oil for 5 years?

They didn't say anything about there being any recalls on my vin.

There was an issue with the part, I think given that 09 is a split year? They initially gave me WFN000014, but I guess that is for gen2/LR4. WFN500021 fit correctly.

Yeah it happpens. Coolant leaks, timing chain failure, any number of reasons. But yeah your probably right that some kind of stupidity is involved. I love the overheating complaints with no tow ticket attached. That’s always a great way to start.

Stew - outside of the DPF issues are TD6 trucks holding up decent?
I guess it’s holding up better than the 4 cylinder. I was hopeful at first for this thing but I just wouldn’t buy one. Yes most of the issues are DEF related but fixing the shit gets expensive. I find the system only works at speeds under say 70 mph. Above that speed the cat gets too hot and DEF won’t try to inject.
