Damn You 3 Amigos

I have the 3 amigos issue as seems to be an overwhelming problem among other D2's. I'm new to Discos (had my 04 for only a year), but searching this forum it seems to come up over and over.

Glad I'm in good company. Mine goes on intermittently, but more frequently than before. 3 beeps while I'm driving and there they are glowing in my eyes like a Christmas tree until the car is off again, then it takes a while for them to come back on, and sometimes they never do.

And if I did my homework right, first thing Peter will tell me is that it's likely my shuttle valve switch....and hopefully he's right, because it seems that's a relatively inexpensive fix.

But, I'd rather be sure before spending an hour and $75 for a new one and a chance I don't have the right thing.

Anyone happen to know of someone in or around Las Vegas area who might have the ABS Amigo I've heard so much about? I'll be happy to give you a small amount of money or pay you in beer or whatever. Just love to avoid paying an additional $120 at LR Las Vegas just to get the code checked. Already gave them too much of my money before finding out about Will Tillery and Drillbit from this forum.

Had the same issue a year ago and performed the following mod leaving the ABS unit in the truck and just removing the Shuttle Valve and rewiring. Works like a charm. Haven't had the three amigos since:

Intermittent Amigos tends to be the Shuttle Valve switches, fairly easily changed in situ.

Switches are part # SWO500030 about $65 or so.

There are 3 socket-head screws holding that switch assembly into the underside of the ABS modulator, if you take off the ABS unit fixings, you can lift the whole assembly on the brake pipes and get a 1/4" drive hex key in there. What you have to be careful of is replacing the screws, they are going into the alloy modulator block and it is VERY easy to cross-thread them.

x2 on the LR Club VI fix. Its a great write up. I haven't seen the Amigos since I did the mod about 18 months ago. While there I also changed the shuttle valves.

I re-soldered the connection in the modulator and haven't had a problem yet. My switches tested fine and I couldn't bring myself to splice into the harness like option b.

No I, the problem lies in the two pins and the connector they go into. On mine, they were bright and shiny, but on another, spare unit they were dull and grey. If that connection goes down then its an immediate alarm.

I've collected a couple of spare modulators to cover any future problems :D
