Good Evening folks! I had the best time today, ran wire for a couple of gauges I am installing on the A pillar. I was hoping to solve an on going issue I have with my instrument cluster at the same time. My instrument illumination comes on with the key in the run position and doesn't respond to the dash dimmer rheostat. Anyone else ever experience this? I pulled up the illumination circuit on RAVE, can't find a wiring error, rheostat checks fine. Any thoughts?

If you look at the first page of the interior light circuit. You see how the battery feed breaks off and makes a parallel circuit with the glove box light. I would check that leg of the circuit and make sure that's working not shorted or left on. Even more likely somebody tapped into that circuit and is using it to run something else.

The voltage drop across both legs of that parallel circuit are going to be the same. At least right up to the solid state rheostat. So I guess the easiest thing to check would be measuring the voltage going into that solid state deal on term 2. make sure you can drive a test light with voltage from term 2 with the ground from term 3. With the rheostat unplugged.

Thanks Stew I will give that a shot. My wiring is pretty hacked up, after market stereo, burned up cruise control circuit, oh and 3.9 V8 to 300TDi.
