Has anyone ever experienced their dash deeping or separating from the plastic piece nearest to the base of the windshield? It seems as though it has separated and is lifting upwards. When I try to push it back down, it looks as though it has separated and warped up and will not stay. Can this part be replaced or what causes it? I've never experienced it before in a disco.

Saw it on my 'o4. Only one way to fix it. I know only because the stupid, idiotic, unnamed dealership washed my truck without me asking and left both freaking sun roofs open, then claimed it never happened after the dash warped and the headliner fell and refused to fix it. They claimed it was sun damage and that I should have bought a sun shade. Jerks! I asked them to show me one single truck on their lot with a sun shade......!

Freakin idiots.

Anyway, I can tell you that for $6k they had to remove the front windshield to get the headliner in and had to strip the entire front of the truck to get the dash in. It's one big huge piece. Took them a week. (and of course they found water marks underneath).

Yep , was a big problem on D1 but they said they improved glue on D2 dash to cure problem . As the dash is virtually the same then the repair kit for a D1 should fit , it consists of shaped metal strip to go on front edge of dash and its held down with screws .Easily available in UK in different colours , but in USA you may have to search .

X2. During the life of the Discovery 1 the dashboard was upgraded to the soft dash which was used in the last of the Classic Range Rovers transforming the interior to higher standard. But there were huge problems with the new dashboards delaminating and peeling off and there is a kit available for 40 British Pounds.

Its not as if they get sun in England!! Never heard of it on a D2. How many miles on your 04? Worth talking to the Dealer?

I have the same problem on my '04. I might swap out the dash next summer. Or just learn to live with it.

I saw one yesterday on a customers 04. it was a couple grand for the part.

If you've ever seen the "soft dash" on a 95 Classic you'd know it was completely different from a D1 dash.

For whatever it's worth, I have two soft-dash 95 Classics with black dashboard. Both are fine in SoCal sun. My 96 D1's dash, however, is curled up despite the hold-down kit installed.

honestly I'm probably going to live with it. I considered doing a strong, quick sealing adhesive to it, but dont want to jack it up any more. It's not horrible looking right now, but I may just live with it. I'll try and take pics today or tomorrow to share.

My 04 did the same thing. It Started curling up directly to the right of the instrument cluster then spread towards the passenger side. I bought the d1 dash fix kit and installed it. Man is it a pain! I ended up using a micro air rachet to screw it down and it has been fine since.

didyou have to use the air ratchet to screw down the dash kit or did you just screw the dash down where it was sticking up after all the trouble?

You have to use the trim pieces that come in the kit or else the screws will pull through the dash. I guess you could use some washers to hold it down.....but that would look worse than the curling IMO.

I used the kit from the AB link above. I used some sheet metal screws about an inch and half or two inches long with button heads.

When you are screwing it down .......it feels like you are burning through an inch of rubber and then all of a sudden you get into what feels like sheet metal underneath the rubber of the dash. I am not sure if it is sheet metal under the rubber as I have never disassembled a Disco dash

The hardest part for me was finding the right tool. you need something that creates a 90 degree angle to the work. It needs to be low profile enough to keep you from getting into the windscreen. Ideally, remove the windscreen and it would be a lot easier to screw down.

A bunch of dudes have installed these on D1's.........it seems the 96's were prone to it. I'm sure someone has written this up. If not .....a write up would definitely help those who will come behind us as I am sure that there will be many more 04 dashes to curl!

Glad to see this thread. My 96 is curled up but good. I have been looking at that kit, but was trying to figure out how you would install it with the windshield still in the car. How do you get that thing in?

No problem. Give us an update once you get it in and the experience you had installing it.

You shouldn't have much trouble. Hell.....Im a Banker and I was able to do it! :D
