Since you are a music fan you should also visit ESL, Eighteenth Street Lounge. They don't play Metallica, but if you like Thievery Corporation this is the club that is owned by the band. Shows include lots of international electronic acts.

Also, trying to land a microlight plane on the White House lawn would be a pretty memorable experience.

Also, my fav thing about living in DC was riding my bike around the monuments at night in Feb. There would be no one else out there and they are just amazing at night.

Way back when, I spent some time with my older cousin who was attending GWU. I remember the best part was riding bikes around all of the monuments with no particular agenda...just riding bikes around like we always did as little kids. You get a far different feeling for the layout of the land than you do when you're being shuttled around from site to site on a tour bus or in taxi cabs with a set schedule.

You've missed it for the winter, but the Evening parade at Marine Barracks Washington is worthwhile. Last time we went, I met Senator Glenn while waiting in line.

Dinner at Rasika. I think someone here recommended it to me. It is not to be missed.

Vietnam war memorial and Arlington cemetery. Those two are on my list if I ever get out to D.C.
X2 to add to your list, very sobering. I had a week in DC for a wedding a few years ago and did all the tourist things, but I had also been asked by one of my neighbors to take a rubbing of his brothers name on The Vietnam memorial.:patriot:

Bounce out to Harper's Ferry, up to Gettysburg, and down to Fredericksburg if you want to get a sense of the history all around you.

While you are on 95, I'd be remiss if I didn't say stop by the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico. It is well worth it.

x2 on the USMC museum. And if you come down to Fburg, we can have a few Belgians at Cap Ale. Lots of Civil War history around the area.
