Dead instrument lights?

The panel lights on my '98 D1 suddenly died. Its not the fuse, I've already checked. Can anyone suggest where I might start my diagnosing?

The dimmer dial goes out sometimes. You can reach the 3-pin connector just by popping the upper column shroud off.

When mine died, it was the headlight switch. Check your tail lights to see if they are on. If not, replace the switch.

Did anything else go?

I recently had problems with the stereo, and cigar lighter. Traced the problem to the Multifunction unit which is located behind and attached to the fuse box. Elected to just wire around it, rather than buy a new one.

As an aside, it is pretty easy to take off the dash trim (heater and stereo surround) to access the wiring.
