Probably depends on the dealer. A reputable dealer may give you 30,000 miles, but someone like Land Rover Richmond might give you until you drive off the lot.

do you hate everything?

Most dealers are 12 month/12k mile warranty, but I would take it back to them and see if they'll do anything for you. Did they recommend machine work with the head job? If not then they should at least cover the labour to re do it. That was the case for me at Land Rover Richmond before I worked here. I had the dealership do the head gaskets and two years later they started leaking again, so I took it back and they covered the labour and I just had to pay for parts IIRC.

If it was Dan we would charge double to do it again.

No. But Land Rover Richmond is a joke. Seriously, they should not be in business.

x2 on LR of Richmond. Did not have any major work done there, but when I was looking at spending some money on fixing an issue, they refused to provide a rental vehicle, saying I had to get my own since I did not purchase my LR there. Now, if someone is about to spend over a grand if not more in a place, would it not make sense to suck up $30/day for a rental or give that person a loaner for a day or two? I ended up going to LR of Alexandria where they accommodate the loaner request every time.

Same with LR Roanoke. Last time I left with a 2008 XJ8 as a loaner.

LR Alexandria are good peeps. Met a lot of those guys on the trail, the owner and Centere Manager, too.

Yup, never had an issue with LR of Alexandria. Their guys worked to resolve any issues I may have had and always took the time to explain what was wrong and what needed to be fixed. Not to bitch and moan over the cost of a rental or a loaner, but when a significant amount of money is being spent at a dealership, it only makes sense to provide the customer with a loaner for a day or two. LR of Alexandria has an account with Enterprise just down the road (Duke St. IIRC) and I would usually get a rental from them for a day or so, all paid for by the dealership. LR of Richmond just seemed to nickel and dime you over everything they possibly could; that is the reason I never went back to that place after my initial visit, although it was closer and more convenient to get to.

I think that Land Rover dealerships should give out Land Rover loaners personally. It doesn't seem right to put a customer that just bought a $99,000 Range Rover in a POS econobox rental.

I agree. However, when it comes down to it, anything is better than nothing.

That too, although it may depend on what the customer is getting serviced. But on the other hand, giving out an LR as a loaner, may be a good marketing tool as well. Someone who likes driving a newer or different model may purchase it at some point.

that's what Lexus does....my wife is always loving the up-model loaners they put her in when her little IS250 is in for regular service. Very good marketing tool.

and back in the day when I bought my '96 Disco at the dealer they would put me in a tiny econo-shitbox toyota or something similar. I think I put about 30,000 miles on those shitbox loaners...

Agree. My local Dealer, LR Frisco, gives out a loaner no matter what size the job is, from brakes pades to HG. Good folks there.

Only problem is they usually run out of loaners if it's not a scheduled service. Go figure.

LR Austin was fantastic for me last summer.

LR Fort Myers used to be good, but they have gone downhill since in the service dept even though they spent a gagillion dollars on renovations. They generally give LR2s, LR3s or Audi A4 loaner cars though. everyone once in a while they will rent a mazda or soemthing if they run out of dealer loaners

my local shop has started land rover clinics, take your vehicle in, drink and eat while they look at your truck. they aren't the most extensive but it is nice to have a second set of trained eyes. Plus they usually let me shit around with them as they look over.

this has been a great marketing tool for them, most people pay for service on the spot. Of course they know all I am going to do is maybe buy some parts and do it on my own but they are still accommodating.

local dealer here gives out volvos.

it is the dealers perogative. they are only reinbursed by land rover for warranty claims and ext warranty pay rental sometimes.

it also depends on availability of the loaners.

and comparing lr to lexus is not fair at all, lexus has 15x the customers and cars at least compared to land rover.

The issue with not being able to furnish a loaner (for at least fairly expensive and lengthy/overnight repairs) in my mind is not the fact whether the dealership gets reimbursed by LR or not. It is that the dealership itself is not willing to suck up a few bucks that it costs to provide the rental if loaners are not available. Now, I understand that they may not have to do it, but it is a widely utilized practice and it makes things so much easier. I never really expect to get a loaner if it is a last minute drop off type deal, but when I schedule something a week or so in advance, and it is going to cost a bit, i.e. the dealership is going to charge me an exuberant amount primarily due to labor costs, then it is only right for them to provide an individual with a mode of transportation in the mean time, especially if the closest dealer is about 50 miles one way from the house. Just goes along with retaining clients, vs. losing them to some other vendor/shop that can provide an overall better customer experience.

LOL....not fair? And why do you think Lexus has 15x the customers and cars at least?
