That was a great read. We simply don't have that kind of scenery on the East Coast. I hear you about the tires. When my D1 is loaded, the 215s sometimes feel a bit sketchy at highway speed. Most of the time, though, they're great.

Keep doing the adventure write-ups. Thanks for taking the time to share it all.

I have to say that these tires are the best tires I've ever had, period. A little noisy on the highway (less so than BFG M/T), very round (unlike BFG M/T), incredible traction, including not very expected surfaces like sand and snow and ice. As long as I downgrade my cornering ambitions, I am fine with those.

I don't know if this knowledge would have piqued my interest to the road we took across Panamint Range or made me stay away... But it gives an idea of what Death Valley can be.
