Decent Oil Leak after Head Gasket Change

The good news is, after the HG change the truck cranked right up, no engine codes and is running VERY well. It seems to have alot more spunk.

The bad news is I get a waffle sized oil stain whenever I park. My wife has it right now at work, and I plan on trying to find the source tonight when she gets home. The only place I think that would leak like that are either the valley gasket or valve cover gaskets. Anyplace else you can think of to inspect? It seems to drip in the rear of the engine near the oil pan, but that is the lowest part of the engine.

TIA

I just took a look. I have a good leak coming down the right side of the transmission bell housing. Makes me think it might be the rear valley gasket. thoughts?

good chance. did you use sealer on the ends of the rubber pieces and torque them AFTER the intake? also make sure the breather is clear. otherwise you will always have big oil leaks. almost all of the d2's ive ever had the valve covers off of the breather is plugged solid.

I did put sealer on the ends of the rubber pieces, but I did have difficulty torquing the rear as the fuel pipe was right over the bolt holding the retaining strip in place.

As for the breathers, do you mean the ones on the rocker covers? If so, I had them hot tanked by the machinist when he was doing the valve job. They should be clear, but I"ll blow through them just to make sure.

But I'm thinking that I must not have gotten the rear valley rubber sealing properly. I just hope I can get back there and attend to it with only taking off the upper intake manifold.

I got the upper intake manifold and coil pack off this afternoon and unfortunately, there are no obvious leaks around the rear valley gasket. :( I did check the rocker cover breathers and the one on the RH side is hard to blow through. The one on the LH side is very easy to blow through, but also when I do, I hear air escaping somewhere near the back on engine. I wonder if that is were my leak is... But also, if the RH one is clogged, maybe it's causing pressure on that side and blowing out oil. I'll keep dissassemblinig and looking. Thoughts?

Good news. I was able to get a stubby 1/2 box wrench on the rear valley gasket bolt and turn it a few more goes. Now the whistling sound I get when I blow through the LH breather is gone. Hopefully too is my leak.

I wanna button this thing and be done with it! I'm getting tired of wrenching on this bitch. And listening to my wife bitch about me working on it! lol

I would think that it is the rear lip seal. I usually tighten those before I put the intake on, its a lot easier to line things up IMO.

Yep, that's what it was. I buttoned it up and took it for a nice drive with the dogs. The major leak is gone. I have a few small spots here and there, just to remind me it is a Rover! I can live with that.

does anyone have picture of the that process.

I seem to have the same leak and would like to do the repair myself.

If anyone has pictures of the important steps in the process, please post. Have done it before but not on a discovery.

Thanks
