Decreased milage 95 disco

Does any one has any suggestions for a decrease from 15mpg to 9mpg?
My 95 disco has been getting horrible milage and decreased power.

The check engine light came on and code 48 (the stepper motor) appeared on the reader. I changed the stepper motor and adjusted the idle, but no change and the code will not clear.
I had the shop time it, but that did nothing.

If you have suggestions, I could use them.
Thanks

The mileage on my '95 increased from 11-12 to 15-16 after my power steering pump seized and the pulley sheared off.

Do the bearings on the power steering pump, ac clutch and alternator seem ok?

The cap, rotor, and wires are all brand new; top quality too.

I don't know of any problems with the pullys. The fan has been removed and the tensioner has been replaced. The PWR sterring leaks, but I keep it topped off.

Thanks

Cap, rotor etc has nothing to do with it. You have a vacuum leak.

That is why the code 48 comes back. The code is set when the engine cannot set the idle it wants to. It can't set the idle becuase the engine is getting unmetered air.

The fuel MPG has gone down because the O2 sensors are seeing the extra air, and tell the computer it needs more fuel for stoichiometric mixture.

A stepper motor fault does not mean for sure the motor failed.

any idea which vacum lines are the most common culprit?

the vacum lines are good; no leaks and good rubber. But the milage is about 6-7mpg now.

Anyone.. help?

thanks

Do you mean the last gasket change? Never been changed, but the bolts are tight.

However the rover dealer just told me that it sounded like the injectors. Does this sound right?

thanks

need to reset base idle and timing needs to be set to about 9 degrees
set base idle by closing off the idle air control valve(vise grips on the big hose coming from the idle air control valve) and setting the idle to 550 rpm
also clean emmision pipes I've seen carbon clog up in that t-piece coming from the upper intake camber I use a drill bit to clean the carbon out of that t-piece
also make sure your machanical advance is not locked up inside the distibutor (see if the rotor button will twiste slightly)
good luck

The timing is set and not frozen. The distribution is perfect; including plugs, blaster coil, and nology wires.
The vacume lines are good and sealed.
The fuel filter is not old and the air filter is great.
The temp is reading fine and the cooling fans are working.
The mechanical fan has been replaced with an electric.
The battery is a 2 yr old optima red top.
The O2 sensors are new.
The cats are new.
The exhaust is high flow cat back.
It has new royal purple oil.
The stepper motor is brand new.

I am a totoal loss here 6-9 mpg?

I am thinking now about a Vortech V6?

less than a second. Longer than a momentary loss of voltage, and you'll need to reset your radio. If I just loosen the battery clamp enough for my alarm system to do a little squeal, that's enough to reset the computer without resetting the radio.
