Don't worry. There is no deer in Bergton this year anyway.

You are right. I only saw 24 in the first few minutes on my property. Got there too late to hunt so I went to Mathias. :D

I saw roughly 60 deer this AM on the way to my stand. But that was with a spotlight, so it really does not count. The only ones that count are the ones in he wall.

Does my friend and her sister still work there?

I'm sure you misstated that since I'm sure you weren't spotlighting with your gun/bow with you. Are you bowhunting or taking the muzzleloader? I only went out with my bow, didn't feel like going across the road to VA. I had a nice 6 point at about 7-8 yards, he should look pretty good next year. Had an 8 at about 40-50 yards, he had a wide rack but the tines were short. I doubt he makes it through the season.

Looks like you have a thing for 10 pointers?

Here a pic of a little guy who ripped my camera from the tree shortly after snapping this. He also took out a second camera twice since then.

dont tell me i got the first of this year? or at least hunting season. I bagged a doe first day of muzzleloader season here in VA. 85 lbs field dressed. Killed about 750am, in freezer by 8 pm that night.

in fact that was the only day it looks like i will get to hunt in muzzleloader season. Regular firearms season starts this saturday.

Ivan called last night to tell me that a friend who owns property near ours shot a young buck that had a complete nylon hammock entangled in his horns. It had literally grown onto him as the horns grew and was hanging in his face, etc. Surprised he made it as long as he did but he was very thin. So sad. Probably left by some backpackers in the NF.

He said he got a cell pic of it, maybe I can upload it when he gets back home.

Wow, that's like six pack rings killing marine wildlife.

Are you going to let Ivan hunt with Kavic?

I am ashamed. This is the first season I've ever been hunting. I've already done the scouting at a place my family has been going for years, in the Seven Mountains reigon of Central PA. I'm still trying to convince myself that I might get something and it won't turn into me takting the gun for a walk.

But I have to wait until Dec. 1st to start because PA chews on the wide one.

my guns don't mind being taken for a walk, but they would rather be shot.
friday i didn't see much of anything & saturday i took my 9 year old nephew with me so every animal within two miles knew we were there. i also used on of those fat lazy boy feeders, the hogs like it but since the acorns have dropped the deer don't go near the feeders

LOL. The people here who made such broad sweeping comments like that crack me up. From a personal standpoint, if I was to hunt for sport or trophy, I would say it would be unfair. That's me but then I can't ever see myself hunting for those reasons. If you were a farmer who's bean crop was decimated this year and you needed to thin the herd by 30-40 animals, getting the job done quickly is what matters. By the rational used here by some, putting peanut butter in mouse traps is unfair and for fat, lazy people too.

Take a fly rod with you. You've got some amazing streams in that area. Hell just below the reservoir at the bottom of 7 Mts. and Penns Creek coming down the backside of the mountain (State College side) to the right about 5 miles in Poe Paddy.

I use to paddle Penns Creek quite a bit and always "put in" at Coburn just on the other side of the little bridge in town. Add a good rain to the creek and it becomes a class II easily.

Next time you're there make sure and stop off at the new brew pub in Centre Hall.

I miss all the great streams and rivers in PA. VA doensn't have anything like them. Actually PA has more miles of streams than any other state in the country. Penns Creek is one of the best in the country too.

Try accessing Penns Creek from Poe Paddy too. Lots of great areas and a nice hiking trail as well.
