Anybody know what the towing capacity of a NAS Defender 90 is? What it is actually rated to pull, not what it is capapble of. I mean I see people towing 20 foot boats with Jeep Wranglers even though they are only rated at like 2000 pounds. I'm curious how much they suffer form the short wheelbase. I used to have one, but I never had anything to tow at the time so I didn't pay any attention.

The pulling is not a problem, it is the stopping that can be tough! I have been there, done that, and almost got killed! If your brakeless trailer weighs more than the tow vehicle, you are asking for disaster!!!
As for you D-90 towing question, I think 3k w/o brakes & 5k with, but I am not positive.

It owuld be for my boat, which with trailer and all is probably around 4k. This is good info though, and I think maybe I should stick to the D2 for towing.

They are all rated at 3500 in the US. But in the UK they are rated at something ridiculous, over 7000lbs if memory serves me (it was in kg).

I have pulled ~6000 or so and it was better than with the disco, I think because the D90 weighs less to begin with and has better brakes.

I was more worried about wheelbase. I know that's why Wranglers are rated so low. Plenty of power but you hit a bump and the front end will pop up on you.

Not like that at all in my experience.

It was very stable. I was pulling a long one car trailor.

D90s have stiffer suspension than discos as well.

How about in a few years when we can start importing them. How will they do with the 2.5L diesels? I may hold out for these just becasue they are a little simpler and probably will be cheaper. Otherwise I'd have to dump my Disco for NAS one.

I tow a 20' cobalt runabout with my 90. the only problem I've had is turning while going downhill. The trailer would like to switch places with me. for steep grades i'm in 4-low as the 3.9 is a little low on power.

towing a boat would not be an issue ... and i would only worry about the brakes if they were old ... i used my 90 this last weekend to haul dirt for my flower beds, i had a loader dump a little over a half ton of dirt right over my rear axels in the bed burying my wheels into the wheel wells, looking pretty funny goin' down the road ... my 90 has never disappointed me.

Hey Guys,

I have a D90 with a 200tdi. I pull a 24 Grady White offshore with it. It has surge brakes on trailer. It pulls boat fine, you have to watch turning. I would not do it unless I had brakes though on trailer. The boat is balanced so there is not much tongue weight. A D90 is simply a real workhorse.
