I'm driving from Detroit to DC this week. According to Google maps, there two major alternatives would be OH turnpike to PA Turnpike (i76 to i70) or OH turnpike to i77 by Akron down through southern OH to i70 there.

PA Turnpike is "ok" (done that tons of times) but the alternate route is through i77 to US250. This might be appealing just to give me a break from the usual turnpike monotony. Plus once on a turnpike, it's not as easy to find an interesting side route due to the toll booths at the exit ramps.

I'm thinking it might be fun to stop on occasion for some pictures. I wouldn't even mind some scenic drives just to enjoy a little break.

Any one familiar with these routes? I'm wondering if there might be some more historical places I might be able to visit for fun if I go i70 to US40 through OH?

Any thoughts?

If you want scenic take 70 to 79 to 68. 68 thru Maryland and then pick 70 back up in Hancock. Then pick up 270 in my town, Frederick. Just avoid 70 east on Sunday!!!! Everyone heads back to dc area on Sunday.

Thanks Mike and "toadermcgee" Saw the links to the park, noticed the waterfall, but did see the sandstone. I'll take a look at that again...
