My father bought a new Chevy pickup - he went back to have the oil changed and found out they are using a new oil spec called Dexos1. He asked them, and me, if the oil they are using in the truck (from the dealer) is dino or synthetic. They couldn't answer and I didn't see anything in a quick web search. It appears that other manufacturers are using synthetic to meet the standard, but can't tell what Chevy is using at factory/dealerships. Anybody know any further details?
Thanks.

Isn't Dexos1 the Walmart Auto Center house brand?

I wouldnt count on it, it's made by GM......

its a warranty voiding ticket.

same reason the new 5.0 jagrovers use that castrol SLX unobtanium, so they can void the warranty or ensure that customers go only to the dealer for service....

from the GM dexos web site link above:

"...use of unlicensed products may result in lower levels of performance and could cause engine damage that may not be covered under warranty."

I believe under the Magnuson–Moss act they cannot deny a warranty claim because you didn't have it serviced at the dealer. As long as you have records of maintenance with approved or equivalent parts, they must honor the warranty.
Warrantors cannot require that only branded parts be used with the product in order to retain the warranty.[2] This is commonly referred to as the "tie-in sales" provisions.

yes, hence the difficulty getting the "approved" oil...
