At first if i pressed the arm button to lock my vehicle the caution lights would not blink, and the alarm would go off every few minutes after that. Now, If i press the lock button on my keyless entry the alarm goes off. If i put the key in the door and lock it without the alarm being set it still goes off. My vehicles battery does not seem to be weak. I do have to move around the car pressing the button until it finally hits a spot to unlock the truck. If i can't find out what is wrong with it myself, should i take it to someone to repair the stock alarm, or should i buy an aftermarket alarm and have it installed? Does anyone know of a setup where i can get a keyless entry and remote start on the same pad?

Sounds to me like one of the door contact switches may be faulty and confusing the alarm into thinking that a door is open. Go round and check that they all turn of the interior light when pushed. Also check that the bonnet/hood contact is being pushed down.

Another thing you can try is disconnecting the ultrasonic sensor (above the rear view mirror) - just pull out the connector - and this will disable the interior alarm and rule this out of the equation.

Let me know how you get on.

Colton,

Forgot to mention, If your truck is post-96 (I think) any LR dealer can hook it up to their diagnostic system and tell you what triggered the alarm.

Also, you mentioned walking round trying to find a spot where the handset would work - basically the fob sends one of a series of pre-coded numbers to the ECU and the ECU looks to see if it is the right one, however if the fob button is pressed whilst out of range of the sensor, the ECU doesn't recognise the next press (wrong number) and the alarm goes into misslock mode. (you then have to press the fob button three times (whilst in range) which will reset the synchronisation and arm/unarm the alarm. Basically, make sure you are within range when you press the fob button, it is not as good as a "normal" car fob alarm.

As you can probably tell, I've been through all this pain already !!!

my DII alarm drives me nuts. My wife and I were camping at Tsali a few weeks back and she 'superlocked' herself in the car at 2am! the damn thing wouldn't let her out (using the usual methods of getting out of a car) so she had th sit there with the dome light on and figure out that she has to turn the ignition to on in order to disarm the beast. What a pain... I can't wait until this thing starts to malfunction, as I struggle with the alarm with it fully functional!

Good luck!

Thanks for the help andy, i will definately give that a try. The only problem is that the dealership will probably charge me more to do a diagnostic test than that damn alarm is worth. Also, why would the alarm go off when i put the key in it and lock it with the alarm being disabled?

Colton,

Locking the truck with the fob sets both the internal sensor alarm (Infrared beams) AND the perimeter alarm (doors, tailgate, hood). Locking the truck physically with the key ONLY sets the perimeter alarm, useful if you want to lock the truck with a dog inside. That is why I think it is one of the door contacts because if you are locking it with the key and the alarm is going off immediately, it effectively rules out the interior sensor. BTW, remember that however you lock the truck you MUST unlock it with the fob or the alarm will go off.

Your dealer might still be the best solution to find out what is triggering it, they need to hook it up to the LR "testbook" system and it should take no more than 10-15 minutes to tell you what the cause is. Should'nt be too expensive.
