Hi, :D
I have wanted to buy a land rover dicovery for many years, and finally money has allowed. When I went to a dealership I also gained interest in the range rover.
Now I dont know which one is right for me, So I have a few questions. Which one is better offroad? Which one has better gas mileage? And the over all comfort on or off road? Thanks

The Disco is 1998 SE7 and the Range rover and is a is in 1996.Both gasoline. Im planning on using it for heavy off roading, and my daily driver. Not a family car.

yes stick with a disco the repair bill is much less. those early p38a range rovers like the one you are talking about often spell disaster. where as the disco is hitting its best years in 1998-1999 disco1

james, there's only about 20-30 people at a time viewing this forum so you're better off sticking w/one thread on the same subject. if you're just comapring the two rovers that you described, sounds like the disco is a better bet for you. i'm guessing that you're tempted by the range rover cause it used to be a $55k car and is now the same price as the disco. as ho hinted, a 96 range rover w/the air suspension can get very expensive to keep up. go to rangerovers.net for basic range rover info. even if the range rover has been properly maintained, you'll likely have to budget at least $3k/year to keep it up.

Just make sure you get a center locking differential and that the vehicle is in decent shape. Get the latest model year D1 possible (agree with Rob).

If you decide to go D2, make sure you get a CDL.

GO with with disco. Youre going to want CDL when you start of roading with it. THe RR is nice but not really a great off road vehicle, plus the air suspension has had its problems.

Gotta admit- the old RRC's are more unique. You don't see nearly as many.
Oh wait, this is a Disco oriented web site- get a Disco.

It depends on what your tastes are. I have owned both. I LOVED my Disco. Stock, I would say they are about the same. My Disco (1) had a 3" RTE lift and 254/75 tires. That made it virtually unstoppable. There is more built in storage room in the Disco, but not as much people room. If you travel alone or with one other person, I would go with a Disco. Look for a D1, as the D2's lost the CDL and gained extra room in the cargo area, increasing the departure angle.

My Range is a 93 LWB. I also love it. It was quite a change from the Disco. I mainly bought it because I am married with 2 kids that go with me, so the extra people room is a big plus. It is still stock, but I have been impressed with how it handles off road. It climbs better than my Disco did, but the LWB makes me choose my lines carefully when doing breakover-type areas. The only time I have gotten stuck in it was because the ETC was not working. My tires are old and slick, and the suspension is old and saggy. Once I put my new tires and suspension on it, I think it, too, will be unstoppable.

So it really comes down to how many people you take with you. Either way, you can't go wrong. Unless you don't do your own maintenance. Then you had bettter have a large bank account.
