Just as the title says. I am contemplating getting one, but I am also very mechanically inclined and have a shop at my disposal. I am trying to weigh the cost/benefit in my situation.

well depends on who you get it from. if you have some factory remaining and can get the APCO plan from LR, it used to be worth it...until they raised prices to about 4 grand. at that price, you used to be able to buy a mutual fund with the cash and just cross your fingers on the rover....market shit the bed, and your rover probably will too, so my final thought is, don't buy a mutual fund, and don't buy a rover.

I bought one for my first Land Rover, paid a good buck for it, and come to find out they weasel their way out of paying for almost everything. Now I own lots of Rovers, no aftermarket warranty at all, and have good relations with a local shop that knows Rovers. My current arrangement has worked out much better.

A couple years ago, when my truck had like 40k miles on it, I bought one that extended it to 86k miles.. cost about $1200 or so... didn't use it once, until I got to ~84k miles and needed a head gasket job... also had them fix a bunch of other things at the time and it paid off completely.... but, if the head gaskets didnt blow for another 3k miles, i would have been out 1200$ for the warranty.

LR kicked in a 12 month APCO Easy Care policy when I bought my D2 certified from the dealer.

the policy has paid out $4-$5000 in repairs so far. Total engine re-seal (they removed the engine and changed just about every seal) and new rear 3rd member.

It is up in Jan 09 but I don't think I will renew. truck is an 04 with 47k so I dont think I will run into another 4k in repairs over the next couple years given all the work that has been done to it recently....

Yup and i paid extra for the APCO 8yr/100K. It was about $2300 sixteen months ago. APCO has been great besides the fact that they require LR OEM parts to troubleshoot any warranty work, i.e no magna-cores, bosch plugs only, etc. APCO has covered $11+k in repairs like abs pump, some emissions stuff, and a new short block. My cost is 100 bucks a shot; to sign off on a 8900 dollar short block install and only have to pay one hundred dollars, felt pretty damn nice.

I gambled and won...

I came from driving a bmw, you'll notice alot of different things, if your getting a certified 04, get a warranty, other than that, the $100 dollar deductable will cover most parts you need for the car. I dont think a replacement part has ever cost me more than $100 besides my alternator.
