Okay guys, recently got my hands on a very nice 1964 IIA 109 3-door. While a lot of what the owner told us was garbage, he was fairly honest about the fact that the diesel conversion he'd started was almost complete.
I got into it this morning and found his glow-plug wiring was on backwards, the alternator he'd been so proud of installing wasn't even wired, but what he failed to mention was that the throttle linkage was not hooked up and that the starter was bad.
I pulled the starter, found one of the brushes disconnected, re-soldered and all buttoned back up. With that in place I decided to go ahead and see what the motor would do. By the end of the day we had the motor running, adjusted a little for tick-over, and now comes the small dilemma of the throttle linkage.
With the diesel in place, the linkage needs to go to the right side of the motor, whereas the stock position would have ran it straight from the pedal to the carb, on the driver side of the motor. I keep trying to wrap my head around this one as I can look at my SIII RHD and see the same issue resolved - the pedal comes to a bracket, and then a rod runs the width of the bulkhead to another linkage running to eh carb.
Now for you conversion guys out there - was the solution that simple or did you find something more local and cheaper than buying a whole new linkage? I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks-
