Diesel Discovery 1 values in Canada?

Hi folks. I have two diesel Discoveries and I'm trying to figure out what to do with them.

- 1995 with a 300tdi drive-by-wire auto from a 1997+ UK Discovery. Broken timing belt with who-knows-what as a result.
- 200tdi/5spd that I'm told is in great shape, except the vehicle around it is rotting away so really it's just a drivetrain that needs to be pulled.

Both of these vehicles came to me as they are so I know very little about them other than that.

I also have a 1995 v8 that I've asked about at https://discoweb.org/showthread.php?t=95199 and I'm considering putting the 200tdi into that as the v8 just died. I'm just wondering about values as part of an overall cost/benefit analysis.

If you are not a diesel guy, meaning if you either have the money to have someone else work on it or the skills time and money to do it yourself. You will do better selling the diesel drive trains, they will easily fund a nice V8. In the US 200/300tdi with trans can go for 4500.00 plus.

Thanks. I am not sure of the legal issues that a buyer would need to go through to import a modified Discovery into the US. But I guess if they're importing a drivetrain that happens to be stuck in a vehicle, that's a different story. And also not my problem if someone wants to pay me for it.

I am a "diesel guy", having owned my 200tdi 110 for about 11 years. I'd love to fix the 300tdi, swap the 200tdi into the '95 I just put on the road a few months ago. However, having already decided to finally sell my 110 in an attempt to simplify my life (sad face) it's hard to justify then turning around and spending countless hours fixing/swapping Discoveries and engines. Of course I'm still considering it...

I have two identical 1995 Discoveries, down to the colour, brush guard, tail light covers, and running boards. I even have sequential license plates for them. It would be great to have them both on the road at the same time, 200tdi/5spd in one and 300tdi/auto in the other. But that's just vanity talking :-(

(edit: I see I'm responding to you in two places with similar info. Thanks on both counts.)

Hey Andrew, I responded to both your posts with out realizing it was the same guy posting, my bad. Importing a diesel vehicle is a lot harder than buying an engine and having it shipped to the US. With that said it has been about 5 years since I have done it.
