diff and transfer fluid

Getting ready to change all fluids. I know I read they take 85/90 but would 85/140 GL-5 work? Reason I ask it I can get that in 5 quart containers cheaper. I know it's not worth risking damage but you never know unless you ask. To be honest I never have understood why multi-grade oil has to values. Thanks...

Oh also, as far as the ****** goes, one place I read Dextron II and another Dextron III. Which is it

The Higher numbered dextrons just supercede dextron II. Its all compatible. My understanding is GM owns the name dextron so other manufacturers had to add some little number or extra name to it. :confused: If you look on the back of the bottle it will tell you what it replaces and is compatible with.
