Just put a new Bosal intermediate silencer on due to the old one not passing inspection. Not a bad job except this is a 2002 and has 160k Vermont miles. The fasteners were not recognizable but I had bought a batch of high tensile flange head bolts and nuts ahead of time. The front pipe was in good shape and I finally managed to get the old welded in studs out of the flanges so all good. Putting it back together after cleaning and grinding everything to fit nice it seems the front flange is bending when I put any appreciable load on the bolts. It sealed up and I am running it in now but it just seemed whimpy to me. The large "olive" shape beat into the front pipe was in perfect shape and the flange didn't seem damaged much or rotted away too much but it just seems light. didn't want to put any more torque on. The flanges on the new muffler are like 1/4" thick and stiff.

Is this normal? Worried that the bolts are just going to loosen up and fall off.

Only got 160k miles and 12 years out of the factory muffler!
