does anybody know the specs of the DII amp that goes to the subwoofer or have any specs on the stock subwoofer? they sound like complete crap when any decent bass hits so i'm looking to replace them with a pair of the same sized subs. i know they're 6.5" and have read to get shallow speakers. just want to get a set that will match up decent with the stock amp and not be underdriven too much. my truck is an 04' SE

Cant remember which ones.. but found some "nice" cheap ones on ebay.... They were sort of plastic center that dished in in the center... No logos or etc... were like $15 each and sounded great... but yea, if you do not find shallow mounts (mine were not)... You will need to trim a little off the door on the inside... no big deal.... and easy to do.... saws all and 5 minutes later and done!.... As for your speakers you have now.. they are partially glued in place... it is fun to get apart... but not too bad... also, the lip on the mount surface of the new speakers i got where about 2mm too big and i took a pair of sheet metal snips and just trimmed a little fat off so it would fall into the recess on your factory mount plate!... Sound bad and all.. but really it was not... and it rocks now!...

did they give you better sound than the working stock speakers? i'm not replacing the subs because they're broken, just want to improve the quality of bass produced. the cheaper route sounds interesting as i won't be pushing a lot of power through the system, just looking for an improvement over factory

you can run deep ones if you trim the metal door skin a little. (on the inside behind the speaker. once you take it apart you will see). I used some universal radioshack woofers and it sounds great.

I just unplugged mine, I think it sounds better without them. The stock subs make it sound too muddy in my opinion, although some aftermarket ones may fix that.

That's what I did in both my DI and DII. I always found the bass to be too overwhelming, muddy is a good way of putting it. I though it sounded much more balanced and clear without the subs going (and making the license plate rattle against the door).

Yea, i think just a cheap set like i posted up too sound great... and cheap!... Dont spend $100 each on some nice ones... You will really kick your self later... dont expect sound like you would get coming from some 15"s... but it does sound 3x better than stock! Just takes a little work and time!
