Hello folks,

My 2002 D2 with 88k miles on the original motor has been throwing codes for sometime now. Codes originally appeared to be related to bad spark, etc. (misfires) so I recently had a rover specialist change the plugs (bosch platinums) and wires (the good STI wires) and the truck was running well. Well now, maybe 400 miles later, codes are back.

I've been using a wireless OBDII plug in and an app on my iphone to read the codes and this is what I'm showing:

P1300
P0304
P0307
P0300

So I've read that this code cocktail could be the MAF, crank position sensor, throttle position sensor, coils, and about a dozen other causes.

Where should I start?

NGK V-power BKR6E-11 or the GP plugs BKREGP, try those then I would look at the CPS if that doesn't clear it up.

I forgot to note that putting around town < 35 mph, no codes...but somewhere between 35 and 50 (like when coming up to freeway speed) is when the CEL comes on.

...because you are having a heavy misfire under load. Could be just ignition, but since it's a rover it can also be several reasons.

First, don't go to a rover 'specialist' that uses Bosch products. Bosch products even from the dealer are terrible.

These engines need plugs for fat mixture The over priced champions or an NGK 5553.

Could be losing fuel pressure under load and causing lean misfires.

Is it the Platinum Plugs in general that don't work as well or just the Bosch ones?

"These engines need plugs for fat mixture" - never heard that term before - does it mean a too Rich mixture, or...?
