As the title states, the trans temp warning light came on as i was driving to work this morning. I was not pulling a trailer, a long hill or any thing else that should stress it. i was only 1/4 mile from work, so i just pulled on into work. i came out for lunch about 5 hours later, the light was still on when i started it. I drove it to lunch with no problems. It sat another 4 more hours before i went home. I was thinking that i must have a bad switch as it is no way the trans was still over temp. I drove it home (about 1 hours drive) with no slipping, noise or vibration.

Anyone dealt with this or that could give me some hints on this one would be appreciated.

the switch does go bad. the connector is on the passenger side to the right of the battery, you'll see a two position connector, then try to follow the wiring between the radiator and oil coolers...do you service the trans every 30k?

It is due for service now. how much fluid should I expect to use? It was serviced before at LR of Roanoke but I have never done it. Also, I had looked at Rovers north's website for the sensor but did not see it. Is it dealer only? The Disco is our spare vehicle and may get driven 3000 miles a year. most of that is my wife picking up craigslist finds.

Kinda freaked me out the first time it came on. Then figured out it was the sensor up on the rad. Unplugged that biatch and all's well. come to think of it, lately unplugging sensors has become the fix of choice. :victory:

Had the same thing on mine. The wire was touching a heat shield or something down by the tranny. I taped it up and it hasn't happened since. I'm not sure if this applies to all Discos, but the 04 D2 doesn't have a sensor, just the wire, hanging, loosely, ready to turn on the tranny temp warning light. Those quirky brits.

My transmission has never had a service. I have 218,570 miles.

What is this service that you speak of?

Can't a used tranny be had for $300?

At this point they seem disposable.
