I've noticed that on and off the last few mornings when my disco is cold that it doesn't seem to shift into 4th gear on the freeway. Once the car warms up it fine. Any thoughts? Low fluid? Bigger issue :( ?

Are you sure you mean 4th and not when the TC locks up at about 52-54mph ? (almost like 5th)

If its the TC (torque converter) which I suspect is what your referring to, then the behaviour is normal as the ECU wont allow it to lock up until its up to temp.

normal. it wont shift until the fluid is up to temp to protect against damage on the transmission. it isnt 4th, it is the torque converter like urban said.

Ok well that makes me feel a bit better. I still think that I'm going to get the trannie flushed. I'm at 130K and its an 03.

I always had heard it was for emissions, but I haven't found any documentation on that from Land Rover. We've had customers complain about that before, but we just tell them its normal. I find it quite irritating if you get on the highway right after a cold start, which I do every day, because it takes forever to lock up. If you drive around in city driving first it will lock up much more quickly.
