Rant Warning- Kills me I can’t randomly check the true level of engine oil and trans fluid. I do the oil changes at 5k intervals and it’s usually about a quart low. The sensor is too forgiving and never shows that there’s any movement. This weekend on a quiet drive it sounds to me like there’s a little whining from the trans, but it takes a lot of unnecessary time to check the trans fluid level when u consider the ridiculous pebble guard and such. Rant off.

Manufacturers have been moving away from trans dipsticks for 15 years or more. The tube is a possible leak and really if your trans is leaking you would see it. So if I checked the level a year or more ago and the whole trans is dry, I figure it’s still in there.
As far as the engine oil level goes. I do see some 5.0s that burn oil. Not sure how you guys measure the oil coming out of the engine. I pull it out the tube in the oil fill hole and the fluid evacuator has good measuring markings on the side. Also need to keep in mind the oil stays up in this engine a long time. There’s a half a quart or more up in the oil filter if you don’t do that first.

this is what I use

Yeah, I decided to remove all the pebble guards so I can now slide under and check for moisture. So far, I'm good, but I did find my fourth coolant leak on this truck. I know the bar for Land Rover quality is low these days, but this many pipes cracking I find ridiculous. I can’t tell where this one is actually leaking from and will have to remove the SC to get to it. Pic shows it’s dripping from near the back of the engine and down over the starter. Nothing shows on the garage floor, even with the pebble guards off

The way I measure the oil coming out is by pouring the used oil in the containers that are left over from the new oil I just put in. Always about 1/2 to 1 qt low. F491F426-68F4-4A41-8A9C-6E6E2E238F67.jpeg

I’m not sure what that leak would be. The rear coolant outlet hopefully. But I think that usually runs down the top of the bell housing.
Yeah, seems odd to me as well. Looking from the bottom, up past the starter, there’s no fluid that I could find. Looking down from the top with a camera I could not find the culprit either. Will have to take the SC off to see if that helps.

So this is a 3.0? Look at the back of the cylinder head.

Yep, 3.0. Agree, the thought has crossed my mind that this could be much more of pita than a hose. Not the easiest engine bay to poke around visually that’s for sure.
