Any way to disable the TPS system? Ever since installing my terra grapplers (In a large size) the TPS gives intermittent notifications. I just want to turn it off!

You can turn it off with a diagnostic tool such as IIDTool. If the Terra Grapplers are inflated at or near factory specs, the sensors shouldn't throw intermittent faults, though. Perhaps the fault is from your partially deflated spare when you first start the car (that one clears after a few seconds)? IDTool allows you to turn off just spare tire monitoring (if you have a monitored full size spare) or the entire system altogether.

If pressured equally and spare or pressured with different pressures once set should not set a warning unless a slow leak with a variant of 3lbs. pressure. Which a tire that gets warmer than others can set off. Just like parking with one side in sun, the other side will have less pressure compared to warm sunny side.

i just want the damn system turned off.....I am not an idiot and I don't need a reminder.

It is kind of like the brake pad sensors....again...stupid warning light.

We'd have lost a tire long ago if not for the TPMS. More, TPMS warned me of a low pressure in one of the front tires - that turned out to be a near-sidewall crack - as I was towing a trailer in LA.

Josh, Peter isn't about as far from a soccer mom as you can get.

Presuming to speak on his behalf, I would guess that he is suggesting that we should be willing to utilize all of the tools that are available to us.

Pretty much so.

On my white D1, I can detect an 8-10 psi difference in tire pressure across an axle after several acceleration/braking cycles; in normal city driving it means one or two blocks. This difference will do nothing at all to the tires, only contribute to altered handling.

On the LR4, the sidewalls are so short that I doubt my ability to detect a near-flat condition until it is too late. And the 19" tires are both expensive and much less likely to be found and matched even in a large city.

I have an intermittent leak from drivers rear. I have had it in the tire shop 3 times and they cannot find it. We even switched the tire to a matching spare I had in the garage and it's still doing it. Anyone have any thoughts? Two tires that don't leak and two reinstalls with extra sealer at the bead and it still leaks. I'm guessing it's the TPMS/stem.

Iirc there was a recall or campaign for replacing sensors.

That is a bulletin and only applies to 2010+ MY IIRC.

You either have a cracked rim or a leaking sensor. Maybe you should take it to the dealer instead of a tire shop...

Just returned home from Denver having the transmission serviced and asked the dealer about the TPMS. Told him the light would randomly come on and then go off. No rhyme or reason it just does it at random times. He said the TPMS controller is probably going bad. I think I'll just disable it with my IIDTool. I've checked the pressures and they're fine.

Just show it to another mechanic . Did they ever put it in a tire tub full of water ?

You could have a sensor that is bad, or a bad TPMS ecu. Disabling it is a good option.

The dealer seemed to think it was the TPMS ECU. I wish the system would tell you what tire the reading was coming from instead of just the warning light and check all tyre pressures message in the display.
