Any one completed one? I am looking at the Rocky Mountain set up. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

I don't see how any disc brake setup could be too small since I've rarely, if ever, felt a serious lack in properly maintained Series brakes.
Did you read this review of them? http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/discBrake.htm

Thanks Tom, I did read that one. I am not having a lot of problems with them, but there are occasions, on the highway 65-ish in heavy traffic when it has been raining alot, that a quick stab at the brakes can mean a pretty nice swerve left or right. Doesn't seem to be near the issue when it is dry. This is how I tend to find out that I need to adjust one (or more) of the shoes.

I was just thinking that discs, might make that a little less interesting. :) While I don't expect to have work free brakes, I was thinking that the discs would maybe lengthen the amount of time between changes, and be a little less likely to fade, more likely to grab if wet, yes I know to ride them a moment coming out of water, be less likely to get contaminated by the little bit of grease that escapes the hub seal every so often, etc.etc.

I was just kind of wondering if well maintained discs on an 88 are better than well maintained drums?

If they are better, should I be using them, or perserve my anorakistic view. :)

Thanks,

Dan,
I went with the RM set and happy with that set-up and type.
Go to TeriAnn's Expedition Landrove site for a good read on the
disc brake conversion. Great site and a load of good LR info.. she has
really done alot for the landrover community with her time and effort
documenting all of this.

The Series I have weighs a ton...GM 350-TH350, winches frt/rear...
stops good. I do have a large booster set-up.

I have some photos but keep getting a invalid file on down loading them.

I had Timm Cooper do the disc brake conversion (Defender calipers) on my '65 series IIA. I am very happy with it.

If you have a Series III there is no issue, if you have a Series II you will need the Series III brake tower assembly which are hard to find in the US. I ended up buying one in the UK on a business trip. First I attempted to buy one from the South African dude at Wise Owl, but when I told him Timm was doing the conversion, he was a total DICK and wanted to charge me three times the normal cost of the part. So I will never recommend Wise Owl or RM parts just for attitude. (and because the RM spin-on oil filter adapter leaks like a sieve.)

Timm is no longer selling parts, but if you can get your truck to northern California, there is no one better for conversions.

He also put a new V-8, power steering, 4:88 Toyota diffs, and an 18 gallon gas tank in my truck.

Peace,

Tim's conversion is available again. I remember seeing a contact post on it not too long ago.
