Disco 1 - Hot start problem

Having some strange behavior from my '97 discovery 1 - after driving the car for most of the afternoon I parked the car only to come back to it and find it impossible to start..at first the engine would rumble a bit and sputter without catching...then would just turn over without starting..would do this for hours each time I tried.

The next morning it fired right up.

Took another long trip and it did the same - would not start after parking. Car runs fine when driving after the first start.

When the car does not start I have verified it gets spark and there is fuel pressure (depressed schrader valve on fuel rail and had plenty of fuel spray out).

Anyone have this happen before? Any clues where to start on this problem?

Anyone have this before? Anything I should look for - faulty sensors?

Bump...

I too have this problem on my 98 D1.

Where would one start to look?

Look at the coils. One or more is probably leaking coolant
This causes the coil to overheat and supply a weak spark or no spark leading to a no start condition. Once the coil has cooled it will start.

When that was happening to me, turned out to be a fuel pump going out. Once it was running ( sometimes after letting it sit 20 min or so) it ran fine. Very erratic about start/no start. Sometimes it seemed like I had pressure at the rail, sometimes not. Tested pump while it would not start, no worky. Of course, after fooling with it, it worked for another day or so then back to the same ordeal. Replaced pump, problem solved. (96 disco, 110,000) FWIW
