So a friend is refurbing a Disco 1 for us . . . we're flying to CO this summer to get it. With two babies. And we have no stinking idea if our child seats will fit.

Looking to borrow/climb around on/in a Disco 1 in the area and see what seats we need to fly out to CO with.

thanks in advance!

Two child seats ought to fit. The D1's do not have the LATCH system, so they'll be secured with the seat belts only.

Thanks for the replies--LRFlip, appreciate the offer--I think it'd just be me and the seats involved, and all my vaccines are very up to date, so we should be good. And I typically sign waivers without even reading them, so we'll be good on that front, too. Let me see if something closer crops up; if not, I may well take you up on the offer.

And, for general knowledge, we're most interested in fore-aft space. No question there's enough side-to-side space, but one of our rear facing seats takes up a LOT of room, and I believe the Discos have far less room between back seats and front than our VW Passat (also a TDi, which the Disco is about to be . . . ), so we're wondering what seats to fly out with. . .

rear facing seats are WAY tight in the DI with the front seat slid 75% of the way back. I dont normally have child seats in the disco but i have, and when my now 3 year old was in a rear facing, it was tight up front for me and the two seats still touched (i'm 6'1"). it'll work but if you're able to go front facing, it makes a world of difference (often age/weight will not permit though).

I've fit 3 forward facing kids car seats in my D1 and it is TIGHT. The problem is the rear wheel arches. On a seat with a larger base they will cause the seat to slant towards the middle of the truck.
Your best bet for a rear facing seat will be in the middle to utilize the gap between the two front seats. You should be able to get the other seat on either side of the forward facing one.
Flying to CO with two small kids then driving back to NC in a D1 with the kids inches from your ears.....yoy must be a glutton for punishment. :D

Thanks for all the feedback--we've got a 14 month old and a 1 month old, so I guess the "big" one could be front facing by then, but the little one will need to be rear-facing for a while yet. And, yup, we're planning on a third, although at the moment we're still kind of reeling, so may rein in the pace a bit here. . .

Makes sense re. the wheel arches, thanks for the tips on where to put the rear facing seat. And I'm about 6'0", but fortunately (for this) am mostly torso, so might be able to have the seat kind of far forward.

Depending on my next job start date, we'll do the return trip over about 2-3 weeks, visiting friends and relatives on and out of the way, so it should spread the misery out pretty well.

The last time I drove east from CO I was in a SIIA 109SW wearing flip flops to try to keep the tranny tunnel heat from melting my feet, so this should be ridiculously plush by comparison . . .
