Disco II: middle, rear seatbelt stuck.

I did a search of the forum but no luck, I'll give you guys a shot:

The middle rear seatbelt on my 2000 Disco is stuck (locked) and won't release any slack. Furthermore, it is pulled in to the absolute tightest position and I can barely fold the seats up to their normal position. The seatbelt lock seems to be broken and is not releasing. If I fold the seats down, I can get enough slack to tug on the belt and it is catching on the seatbelt lock.

The truck is out of warranty, but I have an aftermarket. I'm reluctant to take it in (especially considering it was *just* at the dealer for a new steering box last week).

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Suck it up and take in to get it replaced under warranty...

I had to have my driver's side rear seatbelt replaced for a similar problem while I was still under warranty. I was lucky enough to have carried passengers on a trip a week before my warranty expired and one of the back seat passengers alerted me to the issue.

Check with the dealer. I am not sure about LR, but many mfgs will fix defective seatbelts even if the warranty has expired, the whole liability thing I guess....

this same problem just happened on our 00 TRek. it ratcheted itself so tight that i had to cut it to get the seat back up. i think it's something that may need to be re called. dealer's replacing it under warrantee as we speak

Interesting. I'm extremely tempted to cut the seatbelt too, just to get the seatbacks upright, but I'm afraid it will jeopardize any kind of original Land Rover warranty/obligation.

I can force the seats to the up and locked position, but the buckle presses way into the seat - I'm concerned it may damage it.

Please let me know how yours turns out.

OK, now at the risk of exposing my ignorance - what is a "TRek"? Is that a typo for "truck", or something else?

Thanks again,
Adrian

Same thing happened on my 03 Disco II. Turns out that a small plastic stud is/supposed to be fitted to rear center seat belt to stop it going in all the way. Mine was missing, dropped off? The dealer fixed it no problem, replaced the entire belt assembly.

The same thing happened to me on my 00 Disco, of course it was about 3,000 miles outside of the warranty and it would have cost me $250 to replace at the dealership. My seatbelt was racheted so tight I couldn't pull it up even a third of the way, so I had to cut the damn thing. So, I have a 4 seater discovery. I wish they would fix this problem for free. My wifes volvo is also out of warranty and the seatbelt just began to fray a bit and they replaced it for her for free, because they warranty their seatbelts longer than the rest of the car. I guess land rover doesn't care about liability like we were all hoping.
