I have a really stupid question that I cannot find the answer to. What is the size of the oil pan drain plug bolt head. I want to make sure I use the right socket. Thanks.

I was going to reply "stupid huge" but the first answer was better...

It really is stupid huge. I thought it was 27 or 29mm. I can look at the socket when I get home, I can't remember the exact size now.

You will want to get a piece of card board or sheet metal to stick up in there to keep the oil off of the exhaust. And pull the dip stick out befor you put the oil back in or you will have oil all over the valve cover and exhaust manifold.
I geuss you have your oil allready. At least I hope you do.

It took me about a minute to confirm to myself that the huge nut was was the right nut when I first went to change the oil. (I went in armed with my trusty 15mm ratchet wrench that I used to change my d2 with.)

I went to Home Depot and bought a big adjustable wrench (I could use for plumbing if I needed) and changed the oil without a hitch.

I just want to thank you guys for giving me the bolt head size. I searched the web and tech manuals and found the size of every bolt on the rover except for the oil plug. (I guess it is assumed that everyone looking at a tech manual should know how to change the oil.)

Lug nuts is 21mm I believe. I forgot to check the oil plug size last night but it sounds like you got it.

Lugs on D1 are 27mm. Drain plug on D1 is not 27mm.

I always change my own.... but i'm thinking now... for $30.... i might just take it to the shop...... I seem to always forget that it covers my damn arm and goes shooting out of there like a rocket..... or i could just get a big funnel!... :p

Yep 27mm for lugs. 29mm for the oil plug. 1 1/8" works too.
x2 on the oil shooting out. Its like a rocket, gets on your wheel if you're not careful. I won't pay $30 or more to have someone change my oil. They use generic junk oil and filters and there's the possibility of them stripping your oil plug, that's always fun. Plus there's the fact that the base price for a oil change includes 5 quarts. If you want the full 7 that the D1 takes it costs extra. Decent oil costs more too. After its all said and done you'r elucky if you get out under $40.

That is what card board is for or a piece of sheet metal to stick up in there to stop the oil from getting all over everything.

The last thing you want to do is take your truck to a quick change lube garage.:banghead:
