Discovery 1 transmission removal/shifter mechanism

I'm pulling the transmission from a D1 to use on a project. Do I need to remove the shifter from the console before dropping the trans or can I just drop it all at once? The shifter is going to be reused so I don't want to damage it when removing the transmission.

Trans is connected with a cable on the left side. Should be easy to see without removing anything else once you get under there.

I figured it out. Ended up removing the trim/knob/cover and tunnel plate and was able to drop the shifter and remove it with the transmission.
