I am reassembling my D2 after a head job and misplaced one of those exhaust spacers. Can I just use the bolt till I get another one later this week. will it hurt or effect the torquing of the bolt.

FWIW early D1's didn't use the spacers, later ones did, like the DII. The manual doesn't differentiate between the two when is specifies the torque of 45nm.
You'll need a shorter bolt probably.

A stack of washers would probably get you by until you can get the spacer. Its my understanding that the spacer allows more tension to be loaded onto the bolt in order to keep them tight. The old style short bolts (RRC, D1) used locking tabs to keep them from backing out. From my limited experience the locking tab system came straight from hell. I'm not sure if the bolts/spacers work better, but they have to be a thousand times easier to remove when it becomes necessary.

Had the same situation on Scania trucks on the exhaust manifold bolts. The wide temperature swings made the bolts loosen, which was resolved by the factory fitting a spacer and longer bolt. Seen it elsewhere on other engines as well.

I don't know if the D1 manifolds were different on flange thickness, but also bear in mind that the D2 bolts are pre-treated with locking compound, you are supposed to change the bolts if they are removed.
