Don't want to beat a dead horse but suspension question

Alright, before i get jumped down my throat and told to search the forums i have done it. So it is a simple question, I have a P38 that has a heavy duty coil conversion kit from Rovers North. Just so we are clear it is this one

http://www.roversnorth.com/store/p-...n-kit-heavy-duty-front-w-bilstein-shocks.aspx

So i have called RTE and searched here and rangerovers.net and landroveronly and read Alan's tech article. The question is, I want to lift my car another inch at least. I want to know how much i can lift before brake lines sway bars and ect. become an issue. I will swap out the shaft if vibrations are too much. I don't want too many other issues. I do want to eventually do a sway bar disconnect. Just brake lines i don't want to go near. I also want to know what is the best way and what exactly i should use. I know there are 9 million opinions. The general feeling is spacers aren't the way to go. I may be wrong but I would like to know what you all think. Any help is appreciated. I know this thread seems like a repeat 8 ways to sunday but i just can't get a clear cut answer.

Hi Andrew

I recently lifted my 1998 rangie using basically the same springs as alan Bates has under his truck. Here are my observations.

1 basically lifted truck about 4.3 inches over stock

2 I did not have (currently) any vibration issues

3 I think my brake lines are alright but I definitely wouldn' t go any higher

4 I used fj80 shocks up front because I was topping out the stock shocks I had to drill the towers to accept the mount but they seem to work fiine

5 used bilstein front shocks on the rear also had issues with shocks maxing out now fixed

6 I would definitely get the sway bar disconnects (you may be able to find these on the cheap on some of the jeep forums)

7 truck tracks strait but does wonder a little bit but ride is much improved to me

8 the only thing I dont like is the axles don't quite center but it doesn't seem to affect handling

hope this helps

Dave

Why would you not want to go near the brake lines? Its not like they are anything complex. If you don't feel comfortable messing with them just have an experienced technician install them for you. It won't cost you that much, but if cost is the main issue you probably have the wrong vehicle to modify.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to change your brake fluid and bleed your brakes because that is something overlooked by many.
