Drivers Window Won't Go Up. . .

So I'm having the same problem that others have had. . . window goes down but won't go up. The motor is working so I thought it was gonna be another roller fix which I've done before on one of the rear windows.

So I pulled everything and this time the rollers are good. When I pull the unit out and run it there doesn't seem to be any problems as it articulates both up and down. The problem doesn't appear until the window is attached.

Anything else I can look at here? Do the units ultimately lose lifting capability?

look at the gear on the motor. it might be stripped but still have enough friction to move the regulator without a load. It might also be the internals of the motor are fucked. You could try taking apart to see if anything is obviously wrong with it.

yeah. . . pulled the motor and it doesn't look like the teeth are stripped. I might break it down again and take a look.

I thought it might be the motor, but if it was shot I wouldn't expect it to be doing anything.

My brother's BMW did something similar and it turned out the internals of the motor were broken. It would turn and everything but if there was much of a load (like the window) it wouldn't do a thing. We replaced the motor and I took the old ome apart and the drive inside it was broken. It used some rubber blocks to isolate the worm gears from shock loading and the plastic that interfaced with the rubber was broken. It just slipped under load (it was supposed to be an interference drive, not friction) I don't know if the Rover motor does that though.

I would just go out and buy a new motor. It's easier than any temporary fix and and in the long run less worries. I'm sure some member could hook you up on a good deal. I got a used one for mine in December For $15 and no problems yet.

You, sir, have far to much time on your hands.

What, it took less than 5 minutes to remove the screws on the old motor. it was immediately evident why it didn't work anymore. or did you mean that post?
