Broke diff, removed rear axle, removed propshaft, locked cdl
It has been two weeks, transmission just started to feel like I am starting off in 4 gear for a second or two and then goes back to normal. Sometimes I step on gas and there is a delay in foward motion for maybe a second or so. If I start in first and shift manually as I drive everything seems perfect...no slipping, etc.

My question is this....can driving for extended periods with a locked CDL cause transmission problems, t-case problems, etc. that would cause the above symptoms.

I have checked the trans. oil - good to go
will check the t-case oil

I have stopped driving and rented a vehicle until I can install new rear diff.

Thanks

there has yet to have been any evidence that it causes damage. many of us have driven extended periods with it locked missing a d-shaft. i hope you arent seeing the beginnings of another problem

I've driven both of our Discos with a shaft removed and locked CDL for weeks at a time, and that was when I drove the Disco about 4k a month, never had a problem. When was the last time the transmission was actually serviced? filter, etc?

2 oil changes ago. Probably about 6-8k. I had no problems with the trans. and for the past 2 weeks it has been driving fine. Got in this morning and that is when I noticed the problem as I was driving to work. Fluid is nice a pink.

The used diff I got had the 3-flange rotoflex pinion flange and it is not being very cooperative at coming off. So what I thought would take me about an hour (swap diffs) is now being a PITA.

Once I get the diff in and everything connected in the driveline I will see if the trans. is still causing problems.

Thanks for the input.

I drove mine around for 2 weeks or so with front driveshaft out and CDL locked with no problems. I did notice more slack in the drivetrain from in the front shaft being removed but that went away when i put it back on. I think removing either shaft will cause a little slack on the TC chain making it feel a little loose or clunky when you're just starting off.

The original reason why the RRC came out with awd instead of selectable 2 or 4wd was because the 10 spline rear axle couldn't handle the v8s torque

Since there is much more strength in later axles it shouldn't be a problem

Thansk for all the info. I am driving in front wheel drive. I finally got the peg off the new diff flange, put the new diff in, axles in and ran out of daylight. Hopefully tomorrow I will have everything in tomorrow and this problem will be gone.
