I am trying to change the rear brakes on my Series II 1970 but for some reason the drums are not coming out. Any tips on what steps do I need to take. Thanks.

Did you take out the screw that keeps the drum on the hub? Its big and ugly.

Also, did you back out the adjuster? Its the shaved down looking bolt on the back plate.

If all else fails, and it could be because the drum has a large lip, use a dead blow and give whacks 180 deg all the way around.

If it's been a while since the brakes have been looked at, the shoes might be hanging up in a groove they've cut into the drum - the 'lip' gunny was referring to. Take the screw(s) out and fit into the threaded hole. Better still, get a similar-threaded bolt....

Turning this bold/screw will force the drum away from the hub - and turning the drum along with repeated blows from the dead-blow should get it over the edge.

Cheers

Just for further knowlege, you can take out the brake drum screws and use one of those screws in the non counter sunk holes, thread the screw into that hole and the drum should loosen. Be careful with the BIG hammer you my ruin the brake drum, iwould not advise tapping on the edge , could break off a nice hunk...
