This may not be practical for US/Euro based trucks (with the emissions and CAT requirements), but here Johnny Law does not require much.

Sea and sand have not been too kind to my exhaust. It is rusting and leaking and in need of a change. I currently have the Y pipe, stock muffler, and the resinator. No CATs.

I am looking at running a dual exhaust, eliminating the Y pipe and resinator. Thinking of using two Flowmasters and piping out each side just in front of the rear wheels.

Fit? Form? Flowmaster? Flexibility?
What about Carbon Monoxide poisoning (better out the tail than the side)?

Anyone with comments or helpful feedback please post here!

Muchas gracias!

What year truck do you have? Did you cut off the cats yourself, or did your truck not come with them?

If you go to this link:

http://s99930825.onlinehome.us/8412/17801.html

and go about halfway down there is a write up of someone who did a dual outlet system. It isn't exactly how you want it, but it may give you some ideas.

In case that link doesn't work go to http://www.texasrovers.com/ then click on the tech link, then DII link.

You should never run the exhaust outlets before the rear wheels, for safety's sake.

I don't have duals on but I did remove the res. and install a flow master, also turned the exhaust pipe out the side of the body behind the drivers side rear wheel.
I like the mods and it sounds good to.
Did you cut out your cats?

Thanks.

Man your getting a better response than me. When I was wanting to do a dual exhaust everyone told me not to be look every other truck in the south. What I have done is a flowmaster and one 3 inch tip on the back. the only bad part is the bumper was bent when i put it on and since have bent it back so the tip is a little lower than I would like it. The disco not moving at all while the picture was taken just so I don't get in trouble for safety sake since the door is open.

Tim,
What did you put between the tailpipe and the body panel? My pipe keeps rattling around and makes a lot of noise banging on the body panel. I can't seem to find anything good to put around it that will stay or that won't melt.

Thanks for any help,
Jamil

On the Disco, there is not alot of room (ground clearance) to install Duals. If you climb under and look, you would basically have to run the exhaust down one side, the spread them back out if you don't want to lose and clearance. If you don't care, then go for it. If you don't off road at all, run the pipes out anywhere you want, but I would think that for (again clearance issues) that you would be better to run them out behind the rear wheels.

As far a the carbon monoxide, side back it doesn't make a difference. If you are worried up things like that don't live near a volcano. They put off more carbon monoxide and posionous gas then any amount of vehicles.

Of course I have been known to be wrong, and I am sure someone will tell me so.

But if you do go with dual, stay cheap and small go, with glass packs..

Jamil,
Just a real strong brace behund the body panel. Got it right the second time.

Last trip out I crunched it with a huge rock and it's still there.
I had a good exhaust guy also.

Thanks guys (Stu and Timmy!!!!!!!) ... for helpful tips to aid in the decision process.

Answers:
Stu - 1996 D1
Others - On Gulf Spec Discos, CATs are not required (no I did not cut them off)

Irregardless of the trailerpark and Z71 comments, which were very helpful by the way, the reason for going dual is I can not find a "cheap" y pipe in the UAE. Land Rover wants $434 for it! I can do the entire dual exhaust for half that!

It is not a bling bling thing ... it is a ching ching thing!

So leave the trailer trash Z71 comments for the wannabe lawyers from OK! (wink)

To keep it single, I could also have the guys "weld up" something, but I am affraid it would not last over here (humidity and salt).

Thanks again,

SandMan

P.S. Timmy - don't let their comments discourage you from your dreams. If you want a fuscia DII with a puce interior and dual exhaust, I say go for it!

Seems as if it wouldn't be hard to make a system out of stainless- but you'd want some kind of crossover or x-pipe. I had a complete custom stainless dual setup done on my Chevelle (R.I.P.) for about $400... just dunno if they have many speed shops where you are. :D
