For a few grand more, I could nab you the surviving M6 prototype, built as a test for the US market debut in the '80s. It's also got a lot less than 200,000 miles. :)

Cheers,

Hmmm...a rusty 20 year old sports car with 200K miles (how gentle were those?)? For only $9K!

I think I'll pass....

Guarantee that thing needs 5 grand in work....they are notoriously expensive to maintain properly.

Save your cash and get a well sorted car. Youll save so much money in the long run...Always remember the 15k rule for E30 M3s.

I had an 89,same color. It was a pain in the ass and sucked when Jap 4cyl cars would pass me all the time. The damb engine costs 10k to replace from BMW. I sold it and picked up a 1988 535i 5 spd. That was a great car, smoother, cheaper and just as fast. Not worth half the money asked for the e30 m3. I saw a clean red 91 m5 on a BMW forum for 6K, near perfect with a lot less miles.

I, too, had an '88 535i/5. No way is it anywhere near as fast as an E30 M3. Top speed? Perhaps. But not in a drag race and the E30 will lose an E34 in the first corner.

If you found an E34 M5 for $6k, then count on another $8k to get the S38 rebuilt as something's not right at that price. I'd stay away.

I had both and there 0 to 60 times were almost the same. The 535 brought miles of smiles and the M3 made me nervous to drive. I was very happy to sell the M3. Lots of people were swapping the rear end for lower lsd on 535 and then the cars really took off. The M3 was bad on gas too.
