Salvage transfer Found...
Your Vehicle Checks Out! AutoCheck's database for this 1993 Land Rover Defender SALDH1285PA919394) shows no historical events that indicate a significant automotive problem. No indication of an odometer rollback or tampering was found. We determine odometer rollbacks by searching for records that indicate odometer reading that are less than a previously reported value.

"No significant problem" WTF... How about SALVAGE?

what an ass

I don't know the guy and the salvage thing is fishy, but I did see the truck at a British car show in Ventura CA. about 4 years ago. The truck is in great shape and is immaculate. I can't say how it drives and I did not talk to the owner. I have seen 110's that had a clean title and no salvage history that were junk. There was a 110 at Land Rover Encino that looked like it had been submerged in mud and water and the dealer was asking $45k for it. To me the salvage title is no big deal if the rebuild was done good. I still wouldn't pay what he is asking though, not that I could.

Read, nice meeting you at the BBQ.

Salvage title sucks for resale value in the present time, but it's also not neccessarily a terrible thing if the truck was rebuilt properly. I've seen "restorations" that we're butcherd worse than some salvage title trucks I've seen.

That said, any 110 with a s title or a swapped VIN is unsaleable to anyone other than a very certain type of buyer. We've had chances at some well done rigs, but with Salvage titles or series titles...no thanks.

Man that picture freaks me out everytime I see it.

Insurance could be tricky on a salvage as well. I disscussed it with my agent and he wanted a stated value policy that was slightly more than the normal auto. But it would have insured my initial investment would be recouped.

To do stated value on something expensive, they'll want to have it appraised. I can't imagine a salvage rebuild would appraise at anywhere near the retail value of a legit vehicle.
There was a court case in MN where a guy rebuilt a salvage vehicle and had it legally titled etc. He struck another car at one point and as part of the suit against him was this "salvaged vehicle" being on the road at all, although it was fixed and passed a cursory inspection. The jury was easily swayed against him and he lost his arse.

Steve,

Depends on the underwriter. Underwriters sometimes do things that amaze me. But I agree. Expensive and difficult. Most agents won't sell the policy either.

Don't have any experience with salvage titles. Sounds like a legal mess similar to driving a grey market Defender.

"I will tell you that I do not know that it was totalled. When I purchased it from a dealer the salvage transfer was not disclosed to me. When I did the Autocheck I inquired about it and was told it was the method of transfer used. Autocheck verified no damage. It has been maintained and serviced at the local Land Rover Dealer and inspected by them many times. Every effort has been taken to insure that it is 100% in original safe condition as my kids had ridden it often at shows. I have seen other 110s before and after my purchase in 6/00 and this is the best example of have seen. I am a private owner and would ask that if you you wish to call me at home (818) 774-xxxx I would be happy to answer all your questions. Good luck and thank you. Alan "

removed phone number to save him the crank calls.
When SALVAGE is 'the method of transfer used' it's because it was totalled. Autocheck cannot 'verify damage' as it uses insurance company databases- insurance company probably totalled it so of course they didn't pay to repair it. Ugh. people.

I have a salvage title 110. When I insured it with Allstate 3 years ago, I requested named value comp insurance to $40K. In February I blew and oil line and had an engine bay fire. Allstate paid over $20K to pull the drive train, repaint the engine bay, and replace with brand new parts the entire h/vac system, engine wiring harness, ecu and maf. Named value works, even on a salvage. When I bought the insurance, I double-checked with Allstate that they would cover a loss up to 40K even though the title was salvage.

kudos to Allstate... that rocks. I figure I'll go with specialty insurance if I build an old series... maybe Haggerty or something.

it could just be a mistake, car fax never gets anything correct, and the dmv people are only about 50% correct, like to day i switched my trooper from a compnay car to my personal car, went up there filled out all the info, she looked it over issued me a new title, tags, ect and when i got back to the office it said the actual milage is 11,050. Thats what it had on it back 01 when i bought it. Its not a big deal to me because im not planning on putting it up for sale but when i do im sure it will throw up some red flags, or someone will just think i drove a lot.

I would love a D110, not sure about the yellow though.

it's got low miles- probably because if it's anything like the one I had it's because it was broken. The odometer doesnt work when it's on a flatbed.

No that is just one of Stuarts cars. Stuart only has creame puffs. IMMACULATE stuff. I'd buy a used toilet from Stuart.
