The answer is yes.
Take the crank position sensor & mount, the timing gear assembly(if you're going from a GEMS to a BOSCH), the knock sensors, the front cover, the oil pan, the fuel injection system and the ignition system from the 4.6, install them on the 4.0.
Install the 4.0 in the vehicle, plug the vacuum lines for the SAI system.
It runs fine, but with a CEL telling you that you have a SAI problem.
I just did this exact procedure due to a crack behind the cylinder #5 liner that was steam cleaning my piston on the 4.6.
The caveat is that I've only run it like this for a few days, so I don't know what the long term affects are...
