My son's 2000 Disco 2 has a problem with both headlights. A quick look at the connector to the bulb shows melted plastic on both sides, on the ground connector. I put a volt meter probe on the other 2 connections to ground and it shows both are live doesn't matter which position the dip switch is in. Failing dipswitch? Bad ground? Anyone?

What wattage bulbs are you running?

If you're getting constant power across the terminals, I'm assuming the headlights are on bright constantly.

What happens when you switch between hi/low beams? Anything?

It is theoretically possible that the switch has failed to enable the flash/momentary hi beam constantly.

Headlight pigtails are a common problem. You probably just need to splice in new ones.

Thanks, guys. I'm thinking the column switch is faulty and putting both feeds into the headlight instead of high or low beam. That current would be enough to melt the ground wire!

BTW they are stock bulbs.

That's possible. If you hold that switch in the high beam position both high and low lamps get lit.

Pigtails are cheaper than a stalk. Sounds like you need pigtails in any case. Start there, then if that doesn't work look at the stalk.

It's up to you.

Exactly! That's my plan. The connectors are toast (well, burned like toast can be) so that's the best place to start. I've not encountered anything on any other Rovah I've owned, so I'm thinking that to burn the ground must have been too much current through it in the first place...we'll see.

If you use your harness to control a couple of relays with larger gauge wire feeding the bulbs, they will be brighter. Sounds like you are half way there already.
