Electrical Output...

Hello,
I have a 97 Disco with 3 sets of lights (6 lights total, fog/off road), each wired to individual switches. When I have more than 1 set on (with the engine running), I see the first set dim. From what I understand, a high output alternator would be better than a dual battery setup for this purpose. All I have really been able to find are regular (100amp) alternators on the web. I saw references here to mean green alternators, but their site doesn't have anything specified for a Discovery. Does anyone know where I can get a high output alternator, or if dual batteries would stop the dimming of lights when more than 2 are on (with the engine on)? Any help is appreciated!

You might want to check out you battery/alternator and see which one is letting you down, also look at how you have your lights and to where, this shouldn't be happening. Also go back and check, Mean Green does have alternators for your truck.

Some questions about wiring?? How many lights are on each feed from the battery? What size wire are you using for each light switch combination? what is the amp draw per light?
What is the voltage read at the battery post when the light is on?, off" ( you probably guessed I do this for a living)

Wiring for Lights...

Gordon,
OK, here are some answers to your questions. Each light has it's own wire to the battery. I used some lamp wire when I didn't have enough length, but it was the same thickness (actually slightly thicker) than the wires that came with the lights. I bought some switches from Wal-Mart that are sort of rounded toggles, and they have an orange LED light on them. They handle 30 amps if I remember correctly, and the lights are that also, if I remember correctly. They are all wired seperately, but I do know that 2 of the switches share a common ground...I did that to save me from tearing out the A pillar covering, as I have the switches mounted where the sunroof switches would have been. Have I done something wrong here?
