Hey everyone who drives a P38. I recently asked Southdown why they stopped making the rear diff guard for the P38, which I take off the pavement all the time here in the US. A not very nice sales representative named David Wilkinson had this to say:

"Just in case you had not noticed you have emailed the UK not the U.S.

And no I do not warrant U.S. manufactured product!

By your own admission you have had the product for several years. If there were to be a warranty on any U.S. product, it would have been for twelve months and workmanship only by Southdown USA or Southdown Off Road.

What do you mean, "What happened to the Rear Diff Guard"?

If you look on the Atlantic British website they are probably still there and on Ebay. If you mean the U.K. website, we have never sold any in the U.K.

People do not Off Road P38's, HSE, DSE, SE here in the U.K. like they do in the states.

The whole vehicle does not lend itself to major modification or serious Off Road like a 90 or 110, therefore they are mainly road cars here.

You'll not see on of these with water up near the drivers neck!!!

I have forwarded you email to the guy's stateside and i will let you know if they have any spare hoops for sale.

And as regard to your last sentence, your lucky I am even bothering to reply to your emails at all!!

David Wilkinson,

Southdown 4x4 Products Ltd,
England."

If anyone has any pictures of their P38 off road in England, please send them to David Wilkinson to educate him. He can be reached at sales@southdown4x4.co.uk

wow...

anyway, the southdown diff guard is a freaking mud and dirt anchor... wifes truck had the kit on it, i took it all off because it traps soo much crap.

besides the english are jealous that their greenlanes suck compared to our trails.

and that is complete BS, there is a write up in a recent land rover magazine in the UK where a guy made one into a trials buggy.

AND, the newer D110 with wolf axles uses almost the same housing and same third in the back, so i am nearly sure it is the same and would bolt on.

I know. The British guy totally went off on me for a simple question. Here is the origianl email. I haven't changed anything from it at all. It was just one email.

Subject: Range Rover 4.0 and 4.6

Hi Southdown,
What happened to the rear diff guard for the Range Rover 4.0 and 4.6? I have been running mine for a few years and recently, and unfortunately, had the upper mounting bracket on this guard break. Do you warrant your products? How can I order a replacement part? If you have stopped making this product please let me know why. The rear diff is one of the most likely things to come in contact with the trail as you know. Why even bother offering the fuel tank guard and the front axle guard if you don?t offer the rear diff guard?

Sincerely,
Sean

Also, here was my response to Southdown's not so nice reply:

Thank you for your help David. I guess you boys in the UK don?t have anything fun to drive on like we do out here in the US.

Sincerely,
Sean

I wish my tone could have been included in my first email. It would have been more of a sad and confused tone and not a WTF tone. But still, I thought we were the customers. And sorry I mistaked the corporate headquarters for maybe knowing anything about their products.

Anyway, someone should consider making and offering their own rear diff guard. The competition isn't going to be bothered.

why IMO they are really crappy... hang up and fill with all kinds of crap.. I took mine off...

A pipe cap or RTE one would be waaaay better and they are only like 80 bucks...

in the last issue of one of those LR mags, there was a guy who made a p38 into a buggy, in the UK...
