Any endurance athletes among the dweb crowd? What races/training are you doing or have done this year? What do you have coming up?

I am a runner and currenly training for a trail marathon in September, Stumpy's Trial Marathon in Newark, DE. Using that as more of the training for the JFK 50 miler Ultra-marathon in November. My fiancee is a marathoner and awesome running partner. We are running both of them together and many, many 20+ mile training runs before then. I may add in a half marathon race up in PA, mid-August but not sure yet.

Eventually I'd like to get into adventure racing and duathlons but I need to get a decent MTB. After the JFK 50, next year I want to run another Ultra and/or a 12hr race.

Did the USMC marathon in 99, it was a great time but havent had the time to train to do another one since.

Prefer gym time now anyways.

Good luck!

Can't run anymore (knees). Just got into cycling (road) and decided I want to do a century ride... I don't think that counts, though, does it for Endurance athletics?

I'm out of shape and for now celebrate little victories like a 19mph average for an hour, or passing a car in the neighborhood at 25... I've found cycling to be addictive and it works for me. I miss running, though - used to do daily 5 milers at midnight in HS and early college. Perhaps all that pavement running is what did my knee in.

Did Ironman Lake Placid in '99, and did a 24hr solo mountain bike race in CA in '06. Haven't done one since, but it's time to get my ass back in shape because I'm going to race 24hr solo again in '09. I'm kind of excited. It's kind of funny how I used to think bike shit was expensive, but now that I want gears/diffs/axles for my D2 it kind of puts thing into perspective. Good luck with your race, I know an ultra-marathon racer (50-100 milers) and he's a little crazy. :D

A century is nothing to frown at! That's awesome, and a good start if you want to get into endurance events. When I was training for Ironman we would do what we called a "brick", that entailed a 100 mile ride and a 20 mile run right afterwards. Ugh, I probably couldn't do that now. I have bad knees also....

Sycip, are they still in fremont, CA? I did a ride with them a long time ago, really nice guys and great craftsmanship.

Handful of Adventure Races - mostly 'sprint' style and working up to the two day/three day AR's in '09. Trail running/mtn biking/canoe/kayak/whitewater(the riverboarding stuff I've not got into yet...)/aided climbs/rappels/orienteering.

Just did Special Operations AR two weeks ago, have the Blackbeard AR in OBX and Primal Quest Sprint #4 on the list for the rest of the year... you should check out the Primal Quest 08 going on now in Montana for endurance athletes - 10+ days and over 500+ miles!

I'm a has been endurance athlete. Back in the day I used to run ultras.
I ran the Bishop Mule Run 50k, Santa Barbara Nine-Trails 50k, Kirkwood Ultra Mountain Triathalon, XC and telemarkl ski race in the fireman's Olympics, Hi Tec adventure series and the Catalina Island Adventure Race. In addition to organised events i have run several 30-40 mile trail runs in the Sierra and San Gabriel Mountains. I also used to do more multi day kayak wilderness runs on remote rivers. I am a fat washed up has been now:(
Although, as I sit here typing I am sweating from a run I just returned from, so there is still hope.

I used to thrive on pain and suffering. It was hard for me to keep kayaking and climbing partners because they knew the trip would turn into to some exploratory pain fest. Now that I dont have as much time as I used to (kids) I make sure to make the trips count.

Here is a shot of my last raft trip a few years back. It turned in to a 4 day test of strength and endurance. Great trip!!

I run.... not marathons though. I've run the Atlanta half marathon a few times and am running the Peachtree Road Race this year for the 7th time. I haven't really trained that much, I would like to actually train and run a marathon just don't know really which one I want to do.

I used to run a whole lot. I recently got a road bike about a year ago and started cycling b/c I could do it in place in my garage at night and be kept comfy by climate control. A friend of mine who I ran with in HS started running marathons and I'm very tempted to get back into it; however, I have current goals of gaining weight and running has been an issue with that. Working the whole situation out and I plan to get back into running soon. I can handle a marathon for sure but really like the idea of triathalons... but I SUCK at swimming, never had any lessons until college. No issues staying afloat... just the form is absolutely terrible!

Matt,

Those 24 hour sometimes waivered to 36 hour crew duty days back to back will test your marathon skill;) They did me and put a lot of lines on my face!

Cheers,
