Hi all,
My 70Kmiles D2 started to loose coolant at nearly an alarming rate. Head gaskets are culprit. Hopefully it drips on the floor (from front right and rear left of the block) and the system is not pressurised. It drinks almost a litre every 600 miles, which is not too much.
So head gasket time. But
1.- A tappet is noisy but only when warm, not in cold or operating temperature or normal use. I guess won't be a slipped liner. So 16 new tappets, likely.
2.- If a tappet is worn, camshaft will have suffered, too, and is false econocmy not to renew in matched pairs--> new camshaft time as well.
3.- When renewing camshaft, chain should be renewed as a matter of course, especially at this mileage,--> new chain time
4.- And after all this $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ at stealership rates (no aluminum v8 specialists in Spain) maybe the hidden problem (future cracked liners) may lie well hidden waiting to come back as Terminator.
5.- So if I re-line block (and then change crank bearings as well, as pistons and conrods have to come out for this operation), how much of my original engine will be left?
Has anybody of you ever tried this experts?
