Engine Code 48???

I have had a check engine light for code 48...

I know that this is the idle air control valve (stepper motor)...I have replaced it with a new Lucas unit, but unfortunately the problem is still there, the truck runs fine I guess but I hate having the check engine light on...

Just a side note, I did reset the ECU after I installed the new IACV...

Does anyone have any suggestions???

THANKS!!!

open more or close slightly the air bleed screw to the Stepper motor. It's located just above the throttle body. The problem is most likely that the screw is not allowing enough air to the stepper motor allow a steady idle. Turn counterclockwise to open, turn clockwise to close.

Disconnect the battery but make sure you have your radio code

Base idle Setting preceedure.

14 CUX sets a 48 when the stepper motor cannot reach the intended idle speed.

It will turn on if you look at it hard.

Try setting your base idle.

Heres how

Atop the plenium, you will either see a smooth cap, or, it was was removed, the sam ehole will havea allen screw at the bottom of the hole.

Set up a ACCURATE(NOT the dashboard one) tach to the car.

Sqeeze shut the bypass hose.

The bypass hose is about a inch in diameter and connected to the stepper motor housing on the back of the plenium

With it sqeezed adjust the idle, using the hex screw to 550 +/- 25.

When there, release the clamp. The idle speed will go up...then settle down.

To clear the codes, undo the "Fuel INjectors" fuse in your underhood fuse block. Then you dont have to worry about the radio code.

If you need pictures of what I'm talking about, let me know.
